RAWRRR, DANA ANGRY!
If I added up all the hours I spent researching and visiting rental houses last fall, for my family to stay in the week of our wedding, I'd probably be able to count it a full-time job for a while. With 10 folks crashing there, we needed a place with at least 4 proper bedrooms, and with aspirations of holding a day-after BBQ/pool party, we needed (you guessed it) a pool. This is Los Angeles, land of the huge sprawling home and in-ground pool, yes?
Well, yes. But its also the land of youwanthowmuchmoney? The land of "this house is usually used as a set for reality tv, and those people will pay just about anything, so now we're unwilling to break in price for anyone else". And the land of "we stuck 2 bunk beds in this walk-in closet and call it a bedroom. Nevermind the hot water heater in the corner". So, finding an affordable rental in our area became a real issue.
After several months of looking and almosts-but-not-quites, we finally happened upon a great place - close to both our house and the wedding locations, with a great pool and plenty of sleeping space, at a decent price. We signed a contract via the (now dead to me) rental company*, and sent in a hefty deposit.
Cut to last week. I get a call from my very perturbed father, stating the home owner somehow pulled his rental from their broker-umbrella and they are no longer honoring our contract. 3 months before our wedding. 4 months after we signed the contract.
You've got to be frickin kidding me! I immediately vowed to cut that man next time I see him and got back to work looking for a place.
What kills me is that most of the exorbitantly priced homes that count on tv/movie rentals are all. still. vacant. For months to come. Just sitting there. Empty. Renting a large house is going to be infinitely cheaper for my family than them all having individual hotel rooms for the week, so its worth the hassle, but c'mon already!
Anywho, pity party over, we're back on track and today Hunter is supposed to go check at least one new pad out. Let's hope for less flaky owners, shall we? GAR.
Bridezilla Out.
*Note to the dolts at said rental company: take this house off your website already, if you're no longer renting it :(

Ugh, sometimes people amaze me. In their quest to make as much money as possible they screw themselves out of anything.
I'm sorry you have to deal with all that with such little time left.
oh man - this is cutting it close. yuck. and i hope you got the hefty deposit back
I don't think you're being a bridezilla at all. It might even be worth looking into whether it was a breach of contract, in case you can get your money back (as long as that doesn't cost a lot itself).
I hope you got your deposit back... this totally sucks. But at least you are pretty calm about it... i may be a little more nutz if that happened to me! :)
