Wedding Blues Breakthrough

I got a job yesterday! Meet the new official errand runner for a local accounting firm. Yep, I'll be driving all around, getting groceries and lunch, picking up dry cleaning and computer monitors.... anything they need. I think its a terrific use of my masters degree :)

In all seriousness, I'm just so happy to have something. These days, more and more of us are forced to take positions that are below our normal skill set and standards, just to pay the bills. There ain't no shame in that game! Gots ta stay afloat somehow, right? This sounds like a pretty painless way to do it.

Tiger, my personal trainer (and apparent fairy godmother) helped me get this job. So, thanks to her, not only am I getting a body make-over, but out of the unemployment nightmare. And not a minute too soon, either!

This Saturday marks our 4-month wedding pre-versary (if it wasn't already a phrase, it should be). We're starting to really feel the pressure to spend, make payments, and generally start draining our meager savings toward making it happen. As an unemployed couple, it sure can be guilt inducing, spending money you might later need for rent, etc. So, recently we've been walking on eggshells about it, putting it off, fearing for the future.

Even though I'm taking a paycut of about 50% for this, it still changes everything to have stable, reliable income each week. Now we can at least rest easy that our mouths will be fed, and we'll be ok. Its like permission to start feeling excited about wedding planning again, and such a huge weight off our shoulders. I hated feeling guilty about the wedding... what a drag, right?

So, things are looking up, indeed. First order of business, buying the decor items I've been hungrily eyeing for months on end. Yeaaaaah booooooy.

Have you ever felt wedding guilt? What causes yours, and how do you overcome it?

Congrats on the job. It is sad how many of us have to sort of settle right now but hopefully things improve soon.

I absolutely hated spending all that money on a wedding but felt I "had" to. This was, of course, before everyone discovered wedding blogs. It's a whole different world now. I would have known that I didn't need a traditional wedding. :) Congratulations on the job, I'm trying to get you as many votes as possible.

Congratulations on the job. I'm a long time reader and first time poster (time poor for a while there) and I'm so pleased you got a job!

I think that it is inevitable in this market to feel some level of guilt about wedding costs - but I think the key is to remember that as long as you aren't endangering your future financial health, there is nothing wrong with making some investments into celebrating the biggest commitment you will have made in your life thus far.
