Keeping it real

Sometimes it is easy to get caught up in the form, and forget the function. Yesterday, Hunter and I had an argument which stemmed from my persistence that we needed to shop for his suit, now. We have a little more than 10 months until the wedding. What was the rush?

At the end of the day, as long as we say "I do", I'll be happy. If the venue burns down, my dressmaker goes out of business, California fractures off and floats toward Hawaii, I don't really mind, as long as we are married. And safe :)

But sometimes, its easy to spin out of control when imagining the day - waiting for it to come, and rushing toward decisions to feel like we're accomplishing something.

And, truthfully, our argument wasn't about his suit. It was about my chest cold and job hunt and his work frustrations and our money concerns. It was every day life woes, concealed in a seersucker suit. But, isn't that always where those buggers hide?

Its good, once in a while, to take a breath and relax.

After our row, we went into Hollywood to attend a concert which actually took place the night before. I had read the schedule wrong. It was disappointing because we missed one of my favorite musicians... but we had found good parking, and it was a beautiful night. So, instead of heading home, defeated, we intertwined our fingers and wandered the streets of glittery Hollywood, under a full moon, together. It was so simple, but one of the most romantic dates we've been on in some time.

Hi Dana,
My fiancee and I have had fights like that - where we're fighting over something stupid, and in reality it's caused by what's going on in our lives!
And you're right - it's important to just take some time off and breathe! I'm the same way - I want to get all the wedding stuff done NOW... but I have to remind myself that some of it can wait.
